In App Purchases

The free ArtikPix app comes with the “th” deck for flashcard and matching activities. More decks are available for purchase in the app. You can buy them individually or in groups at discounted rates.

To buy decks in the free version of ArtikPix, just tap on one of the 20 decks ghosted. Then, choose a selection in the ArtikPix Store. Discounted prices are offered for “All Decks” and deck groups (Decks 1, 2, 3). However, once a deck is purchased individually, then All Decks and the deck’s group are no longer available. For example, if the “k” deck is purchased individually, then All Decks and Decks 1 are no longer available to buy.

Scoring

Flashcards and matching

Collect scores (aka data) in ArtikPix without the hassle of pencil and paper. ArtikPix includes scoring systems in the flashcards and matching. The flashcard activity has group scoring for up to 4 students at a time, whereas the matching activity has individual scoring for 1 student at a time. Detailed scores by sound group (e.g., beginning th) are displayed during the activities, and the scores can be exported out of the app or saved in the app.

To begin group scoring in the flashcards, tap a ghosted image on the card. Then, either choose a student previously saved, or add a new one. After one student is added, up to three more can be added for a total of 4 students. Collect scores for the student image that is transparent on the flashcards. After a student has recorded his speech with the microphone button and tapped play to hear it, tap the smile face for correct and the frown face for incorrect. First, collect scores for the word level, then tap the around arrow (top left of the flashcard) to collect scores for the sentence level. If there’s a mistake in tallying at anytime, tap the numbers to undo the scores for the given card. You can also use a long press on a student image to delete a student from the group scoring session, or to take notes. To collect scores for another student, simply tap their image then tally correct or incorrect. When you’re ready to proceed to the next flashcard, swipe from right to left. When you’re done, you’ll see a summary of scores for the students in the group scoring session.

Begin individual scoring in the matching activity by tapping two cards to make a match. If the cards don’t match, they will remain on the screen until another card is tapped. Tap one of the cards to hear the word again. Then, tap the microphone button to record your speech and play it back. Collect scores for the accuracy of the labeled sound on the card that corresponds with the word just tapped. Next, tap the second card that was flipped over. You’ll see the scores at the bottom of the screen have been zeroed out. The reason is that there is now detailed scoring displayed in the matching activity for the sound groups targeted by given cards. Proceed with recording your speech and collecting scores for the card. Just remember that scores are collected for the last card tapped. And, if there’s a mistake in tallying scores for a given card, tap the numbers to undo and fix the mistake while the card is still face side up. Once you’re done making all the matches you’ll see a summary of scores for the scoring session.

Copying and saving scores

Copy and save scores

Once you’re done scoring, there’s no need to recreate the scores. Just save the scores in ArtikPix or copy them to send outside the app without writing or typing. The copy and save features function in both flashcards and matching.

Once you’re done with a flashcard or matching activity in ArtikPix, you’ll see a summary of scores for the scoring session with an option to add notes. Following the flashcards, tap on a student image to see his/her scores. Choose another student to see their scores. You can also add notes for the student selected. In either flashcards or matching, tap the papers button to copy the scores (to clipboard, Google Spreadsheet, email, or email as CSV), or the folder button to save scores in the app. If a flashcard activity was completed, the scores are automatically saved for the students in the group scoring session. Tap on the appropriate student folders to see the scores saved with a timestamp. If a matching activity was completed, choose a student to save scores in his/her corresponding folder. Then you’ll see the scores saved with a timestamp.

There are multiple ways to copy scores for exporting them out of the app. One way is by tapping the papers button immediately following a flashcard or matching activity on the Nice Job! screen. Scores can be additionally copied by tapping the folder button on the home screen of ArtikPix. Tap the papers button to copy all scores for all students when viewing the list of students. Or, choose a student to copy scores only for him/her.
