Combining decks and ordering cards

Combining & ordering

Easily combine PhonoPix decks and specify card ordering for one or more children. Combine decks of cards in the flashcard and matching activities. The flashcards and matching cards are shuffled by default. But, the flashcards can be ordered manually by sound group (e.g., end ch).

To combine PhonoPix decks (e.g., “Final Consonant Deletion”), tap more than one of the 10 decks. Once the desired decks are checked, then tap done. The deck titles are abbreviated (e.g., FCD) and the sound groups are displayed. To order sound groups in flashcards, (e.g., beginning s) uncheck the box for Shuffle Cards, then drag a sound group to its desired order.

Scoring

bake

Collect scores (aka data) in the app without the hassle of pencil and paper. The PhonoPix scoring system functions in flashcards and matching. In flashcards, scores are collected for the target card that is on the screen. In matching, scores are collected for the most recent target card flipped over.

During either activity, collect scores for the target word (e.g., key) by tapping the smile face for correct and frown face for incorrect. Detailed scoring is performed out of sight for the sound group titled at the top of target cards while total score is displayed on the screen. If a tallying mistake is made, tap the numbers to undo. There is no scoring necessary for the incorrect card in the minimal pair, identified by the phonological process (e.g., fronting) at the top of cards. That is why the scoring clouds do not appear on the screen when the incorrect card is on the screen. Once you’re done, detailed scoring by deck title and corresponding sound group (e.g., beginning g) is shown.

Nice Job!

Copying and saving scores

Copying & saving

Once you’re done scoring, there’s no need to recreate the scores. Just save the scores in PhonoPix or copy them to send outside the app without writing or typing. The copy and save features function in both flashcards and matching.

Once you’re done with a flashcard or matching activity in PhonoPix, copy and/or save the scores. On the Nice Job screen, tap the papers to copy scores to clipboard, Google Spreadsheet, email, or email as CSV. Use the folder button to save scores in a previously titled folder, or create a new one. Previously saved scores are accessible via the home screen. Just tap the folder, then search for scores by folder title. Multiple folders and scores can be copied from here with identical copy choices displayed via the Nice Job screen.

Options

Options

PhonoPix has options to enable varying levels of support for children. There are audio and visual options to facilitate speech practice. It might be optimal to turn off options for select children. This might reduce distractions during practice time.

PhonoPix has sound options (e.g., playing the recorded audio) in the flashcard and matching activities, and visual options in matching only. Via the gears on the home screen, options can be turned off one at a time, and later turned on again. Experiment with the various options to determine which ones are necessary for your children.
